Green Lantern goes out

So, Bryan Singer tweeted that there will be no leather suits in Days of Future Past, thanks to CinemaBlend for the heads up.

Now, the question is: does this mean there will be no ‘team’ ala X-Men: The Movie or is everyone going to get a variant on their classic outfits?

CinemaBlend has new pictures from the set of Thor: The Dark World and for a moment I thought I was looking at someone’s model minatures.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Casting News

Some casing news for Wheadon’s upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. tv series thanks to CinemaBlend.

The Hollywood Reporter shared the news today that Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker have joined the pilot, playing Leo and Gemma (they’re going with a “G” instead of a “J” here). Gemma is described as a science whiz, while Leo is the tech guru and it’s said that they bicker with each other, all of which fits with the previously mentioned character descriptions.

The character descriptions are pretty generic but that’s to be expected. I’m surprised at the youngness of the casting here though considering these are full fledge agents. Is this a trend and this will be a mostly young cast going for the 20-30 demo or just these two characters? I guess we’ll see.

Suit Makes The Man?

ComicBookMovie.com has some more set pictures from The Wolverine but the interesting thing about this is all the comments. A lot of complaints about the fact that Wolverine hasn’t been shown in costume/uniform. Why all the hate?

1) This is post X3 and apparently he was going to Japan for a funeral before all heck broke loose, I can totally see him not bothering to drag his leather get up especially if the X-Men might be completely disbanded by this point.

2) If it’s the yellow spandex they are talking about, yeah, even Stan Lee admitted (and I wish I had the link to it) that you can draw this stuff on characters, but not actually put it on real people. Truer words, folks, truer words. Sure, some of the costumes work out, I’ve seen some good cosplayers, but with some, no matter how much effort they put into it, it just comes out looking, well, stupid. And since you can’t have half a costumed team, the leather look is perfectly fine to me.

Oh, I will admit, the leather jacket with the yellow stripes from Origins… one of the best things about that movie. That’s how you pay homage to the original costumes, not by actually making them wear it.

Singer is Tweeting

We now know  that filming of X-Men: Days of Future Past will begin shooting next April  for its July 18th, 2014 release, but director Bryan Singer (who has recently joined  Twitter as @BryanSinger) is now  Tweeting details about the production. It’s hard to say exactly how long this  will continue for, but it’s well worth following the filmmaker on the off chance  that he reveals some particularly juicy details. Don’t forget that it was Singer  who actually revealed the title, so fingers crossed! Judging from the Tweets  below, the sequel is set to be filmed at least partially in Montreal, Canada. X-Men: First Class was shot primarily in Matthew Vaughn’s home country of  England, but Singer did both X-Men and X-2 in Toronto and  Vancouver so it makes sense that he will return there.

So, might be worth it to keep an eye on Singer, and good to know that DOFP will be filled in Canada, or really, that’s neutral news. Montreal gives the same feel as the previous X-Men movies so yay for consistency.

Millar: Man with a Plan

Mark Millar has spoken up about his role in the new Fox/Marvel movies. Apparently he’s got a three to four year plan. He also wants to see a world where you watch a Marvel comic based movie and they all feel like the same universe.

I’m a bit wary of this.

I suppose not knowing if this is three or four years is typical as he’s got a lot of future scheduling to get around and the studios can be crazy.

But it’s the “all in a same universe” that has me worried. The X-Men movies do not share the same tone as the Avengers films. The Fantastic Four is much closer to the style of the Avengers, that would work, but the X-Men is more akin to Batman than Captain America. Perhaps he meant it a general thing and not all that literal?

The Bleeding Cool article also pointed out that Millar didn’t have a lot of input on The Wolverine, so how that fits into the grand scheme is yet to be figured out, though it could be related to the supposed Jean Grey cameo.

It’s going to be a very interesting next few years…

Rumor Mill: Vaughn directing Episode VII?

As CinemaBlend put it, emphasis on rumor.

This would make more sense if Episode VII was scheduled for a 2014 release as he’d want to get started right away, or at least during the time he’d be filming Days of Future Past… but then Days of Future Past won’t start filming till next year which is when he’ll want to get started on the massive load of pre-production which would mean he’d need at least the back-end of 2013 clear and all of 2014 to work on what is quite possibly the most anticipated movie since… Episode I.

I think Vaughn would be a great choice to helm Episode VII, but at the moment, I’m taking all rumors with a big ol’ grain of non-iodized salt.

Fox released the new teaser one-sheet for The Wolverine and I snagged it thanks to CinemaBlend. Now, Fox has had a bad run of X-Men posters lately, I mean, all of their FC posters were bad photo-shops and completely devoid of any imagination. But with The Wolverine… I think they have a winner.
