SW EP7 Wish List: King Arthur
Posted in Random Stuff, tagged Bradley James, King Arthur, Merlin, SW EP7 Wish List on December 28, 2012| Leave a Comment »
This bit of wish list starts here, I was catching up on Merlin via Netflix and a thought occurred to me: Bradley James (aka King Arthur) for a role in Star Wars Episode VII.
He is the right age for a Solo or Skywalker descendent, plus he has the looks, especially for a Skywalker. Blue eyes, strong chin… as a blonde he could be a Skywalker, as a brunette he could be a Solo. He’s showed chops in being able to play someone with a great weight on them, also has a pretty good ‘straight man’ comedic timing.
Bonus, he already knows how to swing a sword and fight, a lightsaber isn’t much of a stretch.
Double Bonus, he was in Merlin… and SW partly ripped off that tale… so… yeah…
I wish that Bradley James gets cast in the new Star Wars: Episode VII

Review: All-New X-Men #3 & #4
It occurred to me that I didn’t post a review of issue 3 a few weeks back, my bad, cause it was pretty good.
Really, the All-New series so easily could have fallen into the pitfalls of camp and cheese but so far it’s doing its best to keep the whole thing organic. Characters have real motivations and legitimate responses to events.
Scott’s reaction to seeing his younger self was pretty spot on. There was no high and holy speech or dramatizing. First he doesn’t believe what he’s seeing, tries to figure out who could do it, who could punish him with reminding him of what he was and what he has become. And they also kept young Scott’s thoughts relatively out of it so not to overload things.
Emma’s reaction was probably the best. Jean Grey, having her around again is all she needed… note the heavy sarcasm there.
Bobby is still pretty funny, always screaming when he sees himself. Angel hasn’t really had a chance to do much, I’m hoping we get his, erm, mentally challenged…? older self in to see what the boy thinks.
Next issue looks to be about Jean which is fair, the girl hasn’t been in anything in a long time, she’s dead after all. I wonder how she’s going to take the whole “I died HOW MANY TIMES?” news. There needs to be at least one blank stare in there somewheres…

Review: X-Treme X-Men #8
This title has been doing consistently good since issue 4 and number 8 is no different. I am actually wondering if Earth-616 Blaire is going to be killed off and replaced with Zombie-Earth Blaire? I really don’t think so because E616 Blaire is ‘our’ Blaire and killing her pretty much cuts off the story from E616… but at the same time… anything seems to go with this comic.
Normally I would be balking at the idea of killing off the main character, but the way it’s been done, it would work in a rather spectacular way and not fall into the dreaded ‘kill ’em for drama’s sake’ that tends to fill a lot of entertainment recently.
It also says something to quality of writing that while the idea of ‘fighting oneself’ can be very tropey, cliché, and just plain campy, once again it comes off smoothly and cleanly.
I can’t say how much I am enjoying this title, more so than many of the others that I subscribe to. If you’re not reading this… you should! Pick it up now!

Review: Gambit #7
This… is Gambit.
This is what really needed to be showcased in the first issue to hook the readers. Gambit being smart, clever, witty, and three steps ahead of everyone else. This is what we’ve come to except from the Cajun and while his introspective ala the first few issues was important, but to capture new readers you really have to show that Gambit is an Ace of Spades, then work on the personal issues.
Pete Wisdom is also in top form as well, loved him in this, he was a bit less manic than in previous issues but his wit is just as charming as Gambit.
If this is the ball that has gotten rolling (cause we did see movement on this side of Gambit in the previous issues) then it will definitely be a fun ride, one worthy of Gambit.

Review: X-Men Legacy #3
This issue of Legacy is a bit strange. You have two story lines going at once: one is your typical (cliché even) events happening to other people are mimics of what I’m dealing with and the second is something akin to a Three Stooges skit.
For the most part, this kinda works. It’s different, a little twisted, not too confusing, and generally is amusing. The skit does take away from the cliché part which is a good thing cause it is cliché.
But then everything in the skit is wrapped up and you’re left with a rather blank back-end which is completely devoid of any originality either in story or dialogue.
To give it the benefit of the doubt though, Legion hasn’t really done much recently that I know of so the character is being reintroduced and does need a certain level of ‘breaking in’ that other characters wouldn’t. Like X-Treme X-Men which didn’t really start getting good till the fourth issue, and also had an underused character that kinda came out of the blue, I’m giving this one a chance to also pull itself together.
