Fearless Defenders #2I kinda missed the whole New Mutant craze so I don’t know much about Dani Moonstar… but with her short introduction in this issue I think she’s pretty cool. Let’s just hope she can get herself out of whatever mess she’s in.

As for Valkyrie and Misty… this is like the Odd Couple… I love it. Someone was an absolute genius when they thought up this team-up. Misty brings the sass and Valkyrie plays the perfect ‘straight man’.

Though, as much as it annoys me that characters like Rogue and Storm are shown as ‘rejects’ to being Valkyries… I guess it does make sense. Valkyrie has been given a pretty hard thing to do… replace her lost kin with non-Asgardians. That’s gotta chafe in more ways than one. Plus it’s more than about pure strength and capabilities… it’s about the soul as well. Being a Valkyrie, I would imagine, would be less of a job and more of a life choice. Though in a way… I am sure you don’t choose to be a Valkyrie… the life chooses you.

Anyway, now they are going to throw in a warrior for the Queen of the Underworld… yeah, it’s all going to hell in a handbasket. Should be fun!!

The Fearless Defenders #1 - Skottie Young variantHow did I not know there was a piece of Asgard in Oklahoma?!?!?

Seriously, people need to tell me these things.

Anyway, that’s not the reason I picked up this title. As you may know by now I have a bit of an obession with Skottie Young variants and picked this one up along with several others. I knew of Misty Knight and Valkyrie but hadn’t actually read anything with them in it so I don’t know if Cullen Bunn is doing any justice to their original personalities… but I like them!

Misty is a ‘badass private investigator’ and Valkyrie is a freaking valkyrie!

Really, this title does a great job of introducing these characters to the un-initiated. They are strong, kick-butt women without falling into too many tropes like long speeches as to why they are strong characters or too much back-ground dump either. It also ends on a nice cliff-hanger that makes you want to find out more.

Let’s hope this title keeps the momentum.
