Okay, so that wasn’t everything I took away from this issue but it was a really great moment. I heart Mystique some days, I really do.
Let’s start with the fact that Bobby is seeing a therapist of some sort, how awesome is that. Mutants in general have always been seen as analogues for groups of people who have difficulty fitting in so seeing that Bobby is accepting that he has issues and is doing something about it is great. Really, I think a lot of the crap that has gone down in the Marvel ‘verse could have easily been avoided if therapy was standard for super heroes. I just hope the fact that they didn’t show us the therapist was just artistic license and not a hint that they will turn out to be, dunno, Mr Sinister or something.
Of course, Bobby is having a time of it. During the X-Termination incident, Alt-Beast put that Death Seed into him and I don’t think it’s been taken out. His personality has gone haywire, he’s been talking to all his ex’s, and he’s causing massive cold snaps everywhere… and he realizes none of this.
Then he gets set off by over-hearing Kitty admitting that she still feels something for Peter. Bobby is basically at his lowest now, emotionally, due to the fact he just can’t seem to hold on to any girlfriend for every long. I’m actually feeling sympathy for the guy for once.
Liu’s always been a very good writer but she really knocked it out of the park on this issue, especially with the side stuff, like the kittens and the small Avengers scene. I can’t wait to see how things are going to go down and how the team is going to deal with this very vulnerable yet super-powered Iceman.
I liked this issue. I’ve been getting somewhat bored with this series last couple of story arcs, but this one picked it right up again.
Also, while I love that Gambit has kittens now, the story of how he got the kittens is the best part. Mystique took them from Sabretooth (Question, if Sabes’ mutation is felines base, does wanting to eat the kittens make him some form of cannibal? Also, could this train of thought also apply to Angel eating birds?) I mean, Sabretooth’s always killing stuff and Gambit’s always trying to save people that Sabes is trying to kill: Henri and Genevieve, the Morlock Massacre, I’m sure there’s at least another incident. It’s crazy. And now, unknowingly, Gambit’s become the caretaker of Sabes’ latest intended victims. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Loved Bobby’s exes all showing up too, hehe. Although I have this weird idea that one’s missing. I can’t think who though. It’s bothering me. I may just be imagining that there’s another one.
Oh, and in at least one issue of X-Factor, the cast had therapy sessions 🙂
OMG, I didn’t even think of it like that… could it be Cannibalism? XD
I don’t know Bobby that well, you could be right, just maybe Liu wasn’t able to get them for the issue?
Yeah, but X-Factor was likely a gimmick issue (I haven’t read it, were they made to have the sessions?), this was really a moment of Bobby just being so messed up he needed to talk to someone. 🙂
Hehehe.
I remember who it is now! Firestar! I’m 90% sure Bobby and Angelica dated at one point, casually at least. Hmm, maybe that relationship wasn’t as significant as the ones he had with the other girls?
Doc Samson did show up in multiple issues along the way if I recall correctly. I think it happened just after Banshee died, ’cause I seem to recall Theresa informing him that she wasn’t concerned about her father dying because she was convinced he was going to come back to life sometime, just like they all do.
Or maybe the writer figured they had enough and didn’t want to get crowded? I think Bobby is making a haram in the next issue… LOL XD
HHhhhmmmm… interesting… but considering how many issues there have been of so many titles… it doesn’t happen as nearly often as it should… 😉
