1X08 – Scarlet – Teaser
A blood red Ferrari skidded down the streets of New York City, miraculously catching every green light with not a single cop car in sight. As it approached the Brotherhood’s warehouse, the garage door triggered and opened just in time for the driver to come to a screeching halt next between Rogue’s motorcycle and Ford Taurus.
The car door opened and two black high-heeled boots stepped out, attached to long legs clad in form hugging trousers. The blouse was white and shimmering under a red leather jacket.
Long curly brown hair with streaks of red fell over the woman’s shoulders and framed her ruby red lips as she shut the door and headed towards the living room of the Acolyte’s abode. Waving her hand in the general direction of the alarm keypad, it tripped to green and with one brisk motion she stepped inside without breaking her stride.
“Where is he?” her voice boomed across the room.
…
Rogue had been sitting on the sofa reading with her feet propped up on the coffee table when she heard the garage door open. Seeing as the alarm didn’t go off she figured it must have been one of the guys, it didn’t occur to her that it could have been one of the others who had complete access to the warehouse.
“He ran to get take out,” Rogue didn’t bother looking up, turning to the next page of the book she was reading.
“Of course,” the lightly tanned woman sighed and rubbed her forehead, rambling in her European accent as she walked forward, “he doesn’t have the decency to be where he’s supposed to be when he’s supposed to be there.”
“Uh huh,” for the most part Rogue liked to stay out of the estranged dynamic between the two of them, it was better for her health, mentally and physically.
The woman leaned over the back of the sofa to see what Rogue was reading, House of Mavendore: Book Five: The Candle and the Wick, “Is that the new Josephine Martyr?”
“Yep,” Rogue answered, turning the page.
“That doesn’t come out till Christmas,” she frowned at the soft cover galley copy, “how do you always manage to get a press copy?”
Rogue shrugged, “I know a guy.”
“Can I have a peak?” she asked nicely but in a way that said she would resort to begging if needs be.
With a sigh, Rogue slipped in her bookmark and passed it over. “Sure.”
“I just want to check something,” she began flipping through the pages, then added, “how you been Rogue?”
“Oh, you know, same old,” Rogue answered, pulling out her phone and writing a text to Pyro which simply read ‘Wanda’s here’. “You?”
“I was doing just dandy up till two days ago,” Wanda said bitterly, but then she let out a little squeal of delight, “Yes! I knew it! Theodinious should have known better than to try and pull that crap. He completely underestimated Jandamarra.”
“It was a long time coming,” Rogue agreed as she accepted the book back and opened it to where she left off.
“Much,” she grinned, but then randomly turned sideways and faced the front door of the warehouse.
In a zip of silver light, Quicksilver came through the door and headed towards the kitchen. He never got that far as Wanda deftly timed her punch to knock him square in the gut as he passed. The mutant went down, Wanda’s other hand grabbing the food before it too went wayward.
“Wanda!” Pietro shouted as he looked up at her.
“I was in Monte Carlo! Mon-te Car-lo!” she seethed at him. “Next thing I know I’m getting called back here to fix your messes just cause you can’t handle some school teachers from upstate.”
“Wanda,” he said breathlessly as he struggled to his knees, “I didn’t know he was going to call you.”
“Right,” she glared down at him, then her eyes soften, “all these years and you still haven’t learned?” Sighing, she walked away, sneaking a look in the bag of take out, “Whosever dumplings these are, I’m stealing them.”
“Help yourself,” Rogue commented from the sofa as she turned another page having never stopped reading during their little spat.
Pietro was hanging off the back of the sofa, a bit perturbed, “A little warning would have been nice, Rogue.”
“Pietro,” she said his name conversationally.
“Yeah?”
Rogue turned her head to stare at him blankly, “Your sister’s here.”
“Thanks,” he said sarcastically before collapsing behind the sofa.
