Deadpool Kills Deadpool #4This Deadpool series has been a bit like Chinese food… initially satisfying but after an hour or so you feel kinda empty.

There are some solid introspective moments that shows that Bunn understands that Deadpool is more than a cheap joke. Deadpool has deep seated psychological issues and it’s no wonder that he’s trying to kill himself across all the dimensions. But it’s also no wonder that he wants to live just as badly, that’s just how far that rabbit hole goes.

But much like the preceding mini’s, there is a lot of stuff jammed into a small space and even with the pages dedicated to nothing but carnage… I kinda have to wonder if truly needs a Parental Advisory, well, this is like PG-13 instead of R. Then with the ending so quickly falling into place with the ‘oh, it’s not over yet’ tag at the end and it really turns this into what it blatantly is: a money grab.

It’s still better put together than the Killustrated mini, but it’s likely something that’s going to be forgotten in years to come when it had the possibility of being so much more.

Deadpool Kills Deadpool #3This issue makes me a very sad Pandapool.

It’s not that it’s horribly written or drawn, it’s quite average if anything. It’s almost a filler issue, just one long fight with a little plot development. But that would be okay if THAT didn’t happen.

Lady Deadpool get’s offed. Sure, hers is a noble sacrifice, but do I give a crap? Nope. Cause first Dogpool, then Kidpool… nope nope nope…

A very sad Pandapool indeed.

Deadpool Kills Deadpool #2Ah, so this story is related to the other ‘Deadpool Kills’ stories after all, and not in a way that makes me want to face palm.

Seems that ‘our’ Deadpool is fighting for his life against the Deadpool that has serious depression. I mean, that’s really what this is all about. Deadpool says it himself when he comments about how he wants to “murder all the other Deadpools… every time [he] looks in the mirror”. For all the man’s laughs, he really is one walking bundle of self-loathing and clinical depression. He’s been kicked around, raped, you name it, and he’s not allowed to either a) live a normal life or b) die naturally. He’s stuck in this endless loop.

Haven’t we all been there at some point?

Let’s just hope the mini-series continues to play that secondary plot point and actually give us a payoff.

Deadpool Kills Deadpool #1And now for something completely different but otherwise the same.

Taking a complete leap from the previous Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe and Deadpool Killustrated, Deadpool Kills Deadpool is a separate entity that doesn’t tie into the previous comics on this particular plot point of Deadpool killing something in particular. So while I still don’t think it’s really necessary to spend a whole issue explaining why Deadpool needs to kill people, at least it sets up it’s own universe and isn’t’ a tacky tie-on to a previous one. Part of that is because we’re not spoon fed the whole story, there is still something to discover here, like what exactly is going on, and why is it not 616 Deadpool that’s doing the killing.

It’s a better start than Killustrated, let’s hope it has a better finish too.
