ComicBookMovie posted that Ewan McGregor was asked if he would reprise the role of Obi-Wan in Star Wars: Episode VII, to which he said ‘if I’m needed’.

Ewan, you are needed. You were one of the best things about the prequels… even if you couldn’t look Jar Jar in the eye. Your storyline in Clones was the only salvageable part of that film. Granted, you tanked at the end of Revenge but that was mostly the script’s fault, not yours.

You’d only have a small role, cameo as a Force Ghost like Guinness did in the original trilogy, but that’s okay. Five minutes of you on screen in old-man makeup talking to an old Luke Skywalker… or maybe one of the younger Jedi, giving them a ‘yeah, been there, done that, chopped someone’s legs off’ speech would be a nice hallmark moment.

I wish McGregor as Kenobi was in Star Wars Episode VII.

We have the reveal of the official Man of Steel one-sheet poster.

Man of Steel Official Poster

Man of Steel Official Poster

First off, what’s up with the lens flare? Was there not enough on the Star Trek Into Darkness poster so they decided to pick up the slack? And what the heck, Supes cuffed? Obviously he is allowing himself to be imprisoned… but why?

Perhaps if the trailer wasn’t so un-Superman tonaly we might be able to read some kind of noble ‘self sacrifice’ from this… but instead it’s just more ‘oh, let’s be all dark and gritty!’ instead of, you know, having an actual Superman movie.

Superman Returns was too soft. Man of Steel is going to be too hard. We are Goldilocks waiting for something just right…

ComicBookMovie has posted more details on the auditioning that is going on for the CW’s new Wonder Woman tv series, Amazon. They are clear to mention that the scenes could just be for audition purposes, or from various scripts not the pilot, and that CW still hasn’t greenlighted this series either.

It looks like there will be a ‘fish out of water’ theme as one of the scenes is about how Diana has ice-cream for the first time and it’s “a very cute sequence”. While this can be fun, I hope that’s not going to be overused.

On a random note, if they want to make this a realistic series like Arrow… I smell crossovers!

X-Files Rebooted?

ComicBookMovie reports that so far there are no concrete plans for a third X-Files movies and hints at the possibility of a rebooted series ala Star Trek because X-Files is a big brand name and “it’s a huge asset in their libraries so I can’t imagine they would let it sit  languishing forever”.

A rebooted X-Files tv series would be tricky as not only do you have a major fan base, but X-Files changed the shape of television and was a hit no one was expecting.

I mention this because before there was X-Men: The (fan fic) Series, I wrote a treatment for X-Files: Believe, a new tv series for the X-Files. This one never made it into full fledge scripts like X-Men because, well, this was like 2001 and I didn’t know about FF.net, Blogs, etc.

Anyway, my idea, which I still like, starts out revisiting the episode Conduit from the first season. Local Feds from that region go out to investigate a possible kidnapping but, in reference to that episode, they chalk it up to rebellious teenage girl syndrome. Before they leave, they get a note on their car written on the back of one of Mulder’s old business cards asking them to meet someone.

They decide what the heck, remembering that Mulder was ‘that crazy FBI agent’ and maybe it would make the trip worth it, entertainment wise. They end up meeting the boy from Conduit (grown up) and he explains about the aliens, etc. The two agents head back to the regional HQ and the lead character asks if they can investigate further, that perhaps this kid is projecting the ‘alien’ story to coverup in his mind something much more traumatic. This is the only way the kid can deal with reality.

They are given the go ahead and investigate and much like the original episode itself it’s left open as to whether or not it was rebellion or the girl was actually kidnapped. In the course of the investigation, the main character loses time and suddenly doesn’t really know what to make of the events. At the end of the pilot episode someone asks him ‘Do you really think you were abducted by aliens?’ to which he replies, ‘I don’t know what to believe.’

This sets the tone for the first season, the lead character is basically turning into a ‘Mulder-like’ character. He starts to see the possibility of the extraordinary in cases where things just aren’t adding up. He wants to believe that he’s not going crazy but at the same time his eyes are open to a whole new world.

The audience is left to wonder if there is indeed supernatural/alien events occurring or is the character going ‘crazy’ as everyone believes Mulder did. Add some legitimate conspiracy by the government, a partner who is supportive but skeptical, call backs to classic episodes, and you have the original series with enough twists to make it interesting.

Perhaps his this Fan Fic series takes off I’ll look into writing the X-Files fan fic series…

X-Men: The (fan fic) Series: Official Synopsis

It’s coming…

There is a silent war which rages within the world of humans, that of mutant against mutant. One side believes in peace, the other dominance.

Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants is a vast network of individuals who have set about manipulating the world’s governments and scientists in order to ensure their place as humanities rulers once the truth about mutants becomes known to the populace.

Xavier’s School for Higher Learning is a haven for those who wish to learn how to both better the world, and themselves, through the use of their gifts. They do not seek power, only equality.

When Professor Xavier’s hand is forced into action, he’s given a choice: stand by while his former friend tears the mutant community apart, or let his former students stand their ground and fight.

Tune in to X-Men: The (fan fic) Series, Friday, September 13th, 8e/7c, for an all new live-action television series event in fan fiction form.

Review: A+X #2

A+X #2

Review: A+X #2

A+X is the opposite of AvX, Avengers and X-Men team up rather than fight each other. Like AvX it’s less about actual plot and more about kicking butt for any reason they can muster.

In issue 2, Rogue and Black Widow team up to take on a Sentinel which has gone crazy. Apparently BW has a car fetish, who knew? But the fun part is when BW chooses to transfer her powers to Rogue via full on lip-lock kiss. Now, I don’t know a lot about BW unfortunately to know how in character this is, but Rogue reacted about as I expected, in that she was surprised but ultimately replied with “Oh. Good Kisser. Spy Secrets. Wow.”

Between this and her ‘Kinky Bondage Drinking Games’ with Gambit in Uncanny Avengers and score a few for Rogue.

As for the second team up of Kitty Pryde and Iron Man… I don’t normally comment on artwork because for the most part I’m not that big of a stickler but this one was a little odd. The way that fingers were made into sharp disjointed claws and everyone was so gangly… it was weird. Thankfully it had some pretty fun dialogue to make up for it.

Gambit is in the next issue, paired up with Hawkeye! I don’t foresee a lot of kissing there…

X-Men Legacy #2

X-Men Legacy #2

Review: X-Men Legacy #2

Issue 2 of the new X-Men Legacy run is still establishing Legion’s character, showing how he is reacting to the death of his father and the fact his mind is a mess of egos.

It’s really kinda blah.

This other mutant is different in that he’s a very racist mutant, interesting to see the story go there, and he manipulated Legion rather easily. But then he’s gone putting whatever plans he had into motion. It’s a plot point we’ll hopefully see more of otherwise it’s a disappointment.

I’m kinda annoyed at all the cursing that’s done in this book. Now, I’m not one to shy away from cursing, I get very creative while driving in traffic, but pointless cursing bugs me. Cursing for the sake of cursing, which is exactly what’s going on here only replaced with funny symbols since they can’t actually write those words on paper, shows a lack of finesse in both story telling and dialogue. It’s a false crutch to create some kind of emotional drama.

Blah.

Let’s hope once they get out of the character creation stage and into the meat of the story they won’t waste so much speech bubble on it.

X-Treme X-Men #7

X-Treme X-Men #7

Review: X-Treme X-Men #7

The X-Treme series just gets better, we have a nice round off of the plot started in the previous issue with Kurt being trapped on a robot infested world. The moralistic grey area is nicely highlighted again without being shoved to far up the reader’s nose.

Danger, who in this reality runs the world of robots, is made decidedly evil with only a few bits of ‘screen time’. This is a good thing and very well done.

Poor Kurt though, don’t think that’s something one easily recovers from but he did just grow up a lot in this issue.

The next issue will see them meeting back up with Xavier’s head in a bottle and alternate versions of Dazzler and Wolverine, that should be interesting. I also wonder if Sage will be joining them seeing as she kind broke protocols and got herself into some hot water. Since they lost the Alt-Emma, this might be a good addition to the team.

Looking forward to the next!

Review: Deadpool #2

Deadpool #2

Review: Deadpool #2

I actually read this last week and never got around to posting a review. As I sit here attempting to that I now realize… there was nothing remarkable about this issue.

Other than some funny comments made by the Dead Presidents and one ghost (hallucination?) of Ben Franklin… just more of the same ol’ wack-a-doodle that was in the first issue. I’m beginning to see my friend’s point about how Deadpool is not really taken seriously anymore and now a one-dimensional joke of a character.

Also, what is up with drawing him as manky as possible? I mean, yeah, we all know his health-factor causes cancerous sores all over his body but there is a reason he wears that outfit!

If the ever do get that Deadpool movie off the ground… I hope they source info from Kelly’s run and not what is going on right now.

Uncanny Avengers #2

Uncanny Avengers #2

Review: Uncanny Avengers #2

The storyline of Captain America creating a new team with Havok in the lead is dragging on a bit. Yes, we understand why he’s doing this, why he picked Havok, but do you really need to drag that out so much? I suppose they do since they need these guys doing something while Red Skull and his dastardly plan is put into motion, but still…

As for Rogue and Wanda, first off, a big YES to the idea of Rogue and Gambit involved in ‘kinky bondage drinking games’ and a big NO to the idea of Rogue pleasuring Magneto, eww.

I suppose we should all be worried that Wanda considered Red Skull’s offer to destroy mutants again (after she went through the trouble of bringing them back after she went a little nuts the first time)… but she was being given a ‘whammy’ by Red Skull and his newly merged-with-Xavier’s brain. Also, what does Wanda have to live for? She lost her children (if she even technically had them) and her husband has decided he wants nothing to do with her and lots of people blame her for everything…

You know… she would make an awesome and very realistic villain…
