CinemaBlend posted an article about what Chris Hemsworth had to say to MTV about the upcoming Thor: The Dark World movie.

The look of the film is a lot bigger than what we did even previously. The first one worked and people loved it, but this is with a different director and just has a totally different feel. There’s a definite “Game of Thrones” vibe thanks to [director] Alan [Taylor].

Now, I don’t watch Game of Thrones but I do know that it’s pretty gritty, lots of horrible deaths, etc. As a rule I generally don’t care for this style, I don’t mind realism and angst but “drama” (with the finger quotes) and gritty are a current fad I wish would go away.

That being said, this is a Marvel/Disney movie so I doubt he could have gone too terribly far off the reservation from the original story.

Besides, Loki, to me, was the best part of Thor so… yeah… Taylor can do whatever with Thor just so long as Loki gets to be… well… Loki…

UPDATE: Earlier reports were wrong, there will be no trailer or footage till early 2013, bummer.

The Wolverine’s trailer will debut with The Hobbit, and of course will show up online not to long after then. The movie is being described as ‘japanese noir with tentpole action’. This… could actually work.

Thanks to ComicBookMovie.com for the heads up.

Not that anyone is surprised, but it’s been confirmed via ComicBookMovie.com that there will be no more Green Lantern movies until at least 2016 (probably not then either).

Again, are we surprised at all by this? Didn’t think so.

Review: All-New X-Men #1

On the face of it the idea of doing a time travel where the original team is brought forward sounds a bit groan-worthy. After all, not only has time travel gotten cliché and over-used in general, but in specific it’s pretty bad with the X-Men. In fact, it’s the X-Men version of the Star Trekian ‘quantum flux’.

What makes all the difference is the framework in which the story is set.

I was pleasantly surprised with All-New X-Men. Hank’s condition has led him towards thinking even farther outside the box, giving him a real reason to do this rather just him getting the idea. This adds a level of credibility to the story than if McCoy simply decided ‘hey, time travel, why not?’.

I like how they not really subtly but not bluntly either basically saying ‘yeah, Scott’s lost his damn mind and his characterization has been shot all to hell’. This is framed nicely by the fact that yes, Scott has indeed lost his mind. Really, I just want to see the look on his face when he sees Jean again, that should be epic!

So yeah, I can do this.

Review: X-Treme X-Men #6

This comic just keeps getting better and better.

Seriously, not only are the quips a lot more refined in this issue, along with some hilarious visuals (seriously, Wolverine attacking a Dinosaur, who doesn’t want to see more of that?), but they have been able to touch that very delicate line between being socially conscious versus totally on the nose.

They under play the Governor’s apparent homosexuality quite nicely, not making a huge deal of it while at the same time addressing ‘this reality’s’ take on the subject.

They also segway into the idea that robots ‘are people too’ nice and leanly, instead of attempting to bludgeon us with the concept (BSG, I’m looking at you!).

Lastly, they touch on the fact that even in so-called perfect societies where everyone is given equal rights, equality still doesn’t exist. If that’s not a comment on socialism, I don’t know what is.

I really can’t wait to see where this one goes.

Gambit #5

Gambit #5

Review: Gambit #5

Gambit is one sneaky thief and it’s good to see him doing a very Leverage style break in, even if he’s kinda being forced into it. Kinda makes you think he’s having a little too much fun, what with being held at gun point and made to rob a tech company. That would sound about right, if Remy LeBeau was having a midlife crisis then he’s pretty much taken care of it now.

This is really the Gambit we need to see, we got through the slight-emo set up and now he’s dancing around, pushing the limits, being the dashing thief we all know and love.

What makes this even better is the introduction of Pete Wisdom, a character that is as charming and quick-witted in his own right… basically Remy if he had decided to be a good guy from the beginning rather than a thief. Pete’s introduction couldn’t have been better.

Oh yes folks… this is gonna be good…

X-Men Legacy #1

X-Men Legacy #1

Review: X-Men Legacy #1

X-Men Legacy as a team book with Rogue in charge was cancelled for better things and reissued as a story centering around Legion, quiet possibly the most powerful mutant to ever exist (and Xavier’s son). I thought this might be a good read because Legion is a very interesting study in Dissociative Identity Disorder which plays a rather big role in XMFFS.

The first issue of X-Men Legacy is pretty basic, doesn’t do much but set up Legion’s character, reminding everyone of his particular issues, etc. In that sense it does a great job.

However, nothing really happens. And worse, a hole bunch of people die for no real reason.

That being said, it is just the first issue and it did what it needed to do and didn’t try to be anything else so… that’s something. Definitely see what the next few issues look like on this and who else is going to be spotlighted and how.

Whatever you are doing, drop everything and watch this video: Gotham High.

One of the best mash-up’s I’ve ever scene, I’d totally watch this!

Review: Arrow (1S06) Legacies

Or “Everyone Has Emotional Issues”.

On the island, Oliver is suffering PTSD and hallucinating his father. In the present, Oliver is getting an attack of conscious regarding the fact that his father was just as bad as the rest of the city.

Mom’s not taking the break up well. Sister apparently has the hots for the best friend. The Best Friend is clueless in ssssoooo many ways. The Love Interest is, well, normal for her.

Again, it’s Diggle that makes this episode with his sneaky manipulation of Oliver to get him to do some work that doesn’t involve ‘punishing rich people’ but actually helping everyone else. I am really digging Diggle. He totally went full on Alfred in this episode.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to be watching this show for Diggle and Dresden from here on out, everyone else is just background noise.
