Seriously, just look at that shirt…

Bryan Singer tweeted this garish image of James McAvoy as Professor X and at least we know the costume department has a sense of humor. But yeah, if this movie will take place predominantly in 1973 then this is the right look for Xavier… but perhaps a little overkill?

Singer hashtagged #Serpico on the tweet, Serpico being a the famous 1973 movie with Al Pacino as a police office who goes undercover to fight corruption in the NY Police Department, based on a true story as well. I don’t think this has anything to do with DOFP and is just Singer making fun of McAvoy’s hair.

Speaking of which, the hair question (as in when/how does he go bald) is a big one and McAvoy has made comment that it is something that will come up, though we don’t know anything on the particulars yet. From this picture, Xavier has more hair now than he’s ever had, which could make it quite ironic/hilarious should he lose it later in the film.

In any case, it looks like they have started filming present-time (yes, the 70s which is the past is technically present, that’s so X-Men) but that doesn’t mean the future stuff is over yet… though I wouldn’t be surprised if it was as the future shouldn’t take up that much screen time. In fact, we don’t want the future stuff to drown out the present-time because ultimately that’s what this is all about. It’s great to see the old gang together but it’s the present with the ‘First Class’ gang that is the crux of the story… or at least should be.

We still don’t know anything about the time traveller or Dinkledge’s role in the film and I doubt Singer will tweet any spoilers, but we’ll keep our eye out for them anyway as things are about to get interesting…

It’s come out today that it seems both Stewart and McKellen, who were previously reported as being in Days of Future Past, actually know nothing about it. The report comes from Entertainment Weekly but SuperHeroHype has all the details for both stories.

While I find McKellen’s thoughts credible, i.e., there was talk about him coming back, he says he’d do it, Singer assumed that still stood when he made the announcement.

But Stewart? Back in September there was an article on CinemaBlend where Stewart teases that he’ll be ‘reprising’ and then gets cut off before he says what role but it was in conjunction to a discussion involving the X-Men. Sounds to me like Stewart was at least in the same boat as McKellen, if not a lot more sure about a possible role in the film.

Could Stewart be playing it off? I can’t see why. Unlike, say, Marion Cotillard hiding the fact she’s Talia (which no one believed she was playing anyone other than her), there is a legitimate attempt to secure a plot point. There is nothing like that here. The only reason might be is if Stewart is trying not to sound either too excited, too needy, or too smug.

Whatever the reasons, I’m sure we’ll be seeing both men return to DOFP and it will be confirmed in the next few months.

From CinemaBlend:

Bryan Singer, who has agreed to return to the X-Men franchise to helm Days after Matthew Vaughn walked away, took to Twitter to share that Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen would be in the planned film, reprising their roles as Prof. X and Magneto.

Of course, this doesn’t saw whether they will be cameos or have any real depth. Hugh Jackman had a cameo in First Class so a similar instance may occur in Days of Future Past, likely when whoever goes back in time goes back in time. (I still don’t think it will be Kitty, ages don’t fit).

Now, there is also the little issue of Xavier being dead, maybe, not really sure, depends on how you want to read the Easter Egg on Last Stand (plus it’s not like he hasn’t died and come back before, canon wise). But then of course Jean is also dead and apparently she’s making a cameo in The Wolverine (which since it hasn’t been categorically denied by now lends to the very likelihood that a cameo was shot).

This news is another piece that leaves me feeling neutral. Either this could make things that much better or that much worse… all depends on how it plays out.

So a bunch of news outlets including Cinema Blend are reporting that Patrick Stewart could be reprising his role as Professor X in the new X-Men Days of Future Past movie. While this actually makes logical sense in that it’s probably going to involve time travel (hopefully as a way to reboot the series and fix so much that went wrong…) I’m not sure if this is a good idea.

I mean, it worked to have Nimoy in the Star Trek reboot but it was a cold start reboot. We’ve already been introduced to the new X-Men cast and had our required cameo (Wolvie), so why keep bogging us down with the past? Dur, it is Days of Future Past, but still…

Top this on the fact that Days is a Kitty-centric storyline what with her being the one going into her past body from the future… and Kitty not being even born in First Class (well, one would think considering the age of Prof and Mags) and of course Wolvie isn’t going to be there either…

I am getting seriously worried about this movie… but then I was worried about First Class and it turned out to be the best X-Men movie so far… who knows?
