Mark Miller says wha?

Mark Miller, the man in charge of Fox’s new X-Men movies, posted some stuff on his forum and ComicBookMovie broke it down… I’ve suddenly become very afraid and very confused….

1) He calls the The Wolverine amazing, akin to something David Lean would have made… David Lean, the man who gave us Lawrence of Arabia and Dr Zhivago… really? Miller is comparing a superhero movie with ninja’s to Lawrence of Arabia? … How?

2) First Class and Wolverine are ‘year one’ as far as he’s concerned… so why in the world is he letting Singer piecemeal and shoehorn Days of Future Past with the older movies? or is this truly going to be a reboot/retcon moment in DOFP?

3) He calls The Amazing Spider-Man a ‘misfire’, not bad, just a step backwards because it retold the origin again (which yeah, okay, they didn’t really need to retell the origin) but way to smack mouth Marvel Entertainment and Sony. That’s just bad form, not to mention tacky.

4) Then he praises Dark Knight Rises as one of the best films of 2012 while simultaneously insulting it, not just pointing out any niggly issues, outright insulting the movie and Nolan.

“It has it’s problems, especially Nolan’s reluctance to make Batman himself  especially interesting, and the pay off with Bane SO anticlimactic after such a  brilliant build up.”

5) His best film of 2012? The Grey aka Liam Nesson Punching Wolves… out of ALL the movies that came out in 2012…

Wolverine Officially in DOFP

It’s been announced via Twitter, Hugh Jackman will indeed be in Days of Future Past.

What does this mean for DOFP? Depends on how big of a role the man plays. I still think that Wolvie would be the best option for time traveler due to his ageless-ness, but at the same time I cringe at the thought of another Wolverine-centric movie (there are other mutants people).

Singer did X1 and X2 which were basically the Wolverine-Show with Some Other Guys… he obviously likes the character… let’s just hope that if Wolvie does get that central part this doesn’t mean the other characters will get side-lined. Wolvie can do his job, deliver the info, follow some orders, and let the rest of them do what they do best…

TV can be Cut-Throat

Interesting article here from BleedingCool.

Last week, ABC gave a thirteen episode order to a show called Weird Desk, something that sounded a little bit like the X-Files.

The premise promised freak-of-the week adventures involving stuff that’s too weird for the CIA and NSA, all re-routed to a clandestine operation at the top of the US intelligence tree, higher even than the president. They’d be sent all of the supernatural stuff, or anything alien in origin. The Mulder bait.

Deadline have reported that the show has now had its order cancelled. But why?

Well, the reason may be banalities of organisation and funding, or it may have something to do with these reported rumours:

I hear there was concern, at Marvel and internally at ABC, that Weird Desk may be similar to Joss Whedon’s high-profile ABC pilot SHIELD., an offshoot of blockbuster Avengers franchise. There is speculation about objections from Marvel, one of Disney Co.’s most prized possessions, to the new project.

Which would at least cement how the SHIELD show is going the way you probably thought it would.

Formally, Weird Desk might get another look in when the next wave comes around. If the Marvel rumours are true, however, I don’t think the odds are good.

Nightcrawler for DOFP?

An article on CinemBlend says Alan Cummings has expressed interest in reprising his role as Nightcrawler saying “It was funny, that film, because I really like it and everyone really responded to Nightcrawler and enough time has elapsed that I would like to go back to it.”

The writer of the article doesn’t know his Nightcrawler that well because continuity could still be used to make Nightcrawler Mystique’s son. Since she tried to kill him at birth he didn’t know Mystique was his mother for quite some time. The conversation in X2 could still stand as he just thinks he’s talking to another mutant and she could be thinking “he looks like that kid of mine who I killed…. ooooo….”

In any case, as Alan points out, if they wanted him they would have said something by now in all likelihood. Maybe if DOFP does well the sequel to it could find a place for either Alan!Nightcrawler or a young!Nightcrawler. He is a pretty awesome character, a fan favorite!

DOFP in 48fps and 3D?

CinemaBlend points out that there is evidence that Singer is all over the 48 frames per second Peter Jackson used in the Hobbit and may be eyeing this for Days of Future Past. I haven’t seen a 48fps movie yet but… I do know that the US and the UK film their tv shows on two different fps which is why when you watch an older british tv show before they were better at fixing this for US dvd release it looks… well… flat. Apparently a lot of critics had the same thing to say about The Hobbit.

As the article points out there is still time for ‘the kinks’ to be worked out but I’m a bit wary of this as sometimes it takes a long time for this to happen and Singer will start filming next year.

As for the 3D, this is no surprise, everyone wants 3D right in Hollywood because of the inflated pricing. X-Men, though, could be a decent film to see in 3D due to the mutant powers and three-story tall Sentinels. Let’s just hope that he actually films in 3D and not a crappy conversion. Personally, I’ll see the 2D version anyway cause I can’t see 3D very well.
